Establishing the Kingdom of God

“Just as a soldier throws all of his personal affairs and needs aside, willingly putting his life on the line solely for the king’s honor, to capture the crown of the opposing country and raise up that of his own kingdom, so is it fitting for the upright person to set all their intent and purity of thought in prayer not upon their personal affairs and needs at all, but solely… to arouse the Almighty with their voice, to draw from Him blessings and divine light for all, to cause the spirit of impurity to pass away from the world, so the world may be repaired through the Kingship of the Almighty.”

-Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin, Nefesh haChayim, Gate II, Ch. 11
